History

Established at 7th Francophone Summit, on formalization of the existence of La Francophonie, following formulation of the intention at the first Summit, 1986, Paris (France). Merged with H-XC3983 - Agence intergouvernementale de La Francophonie, 23 Nov 2005, Antananarivo (Madagascar), finalizing the institutional restructurating.

Aims

As indicated in Article 1 of the 'Charte de la Francophonie' - Aware of the links created among members by their sharing of the French language and wishing to use these links in the service of peace, cooperation and development, assist in: installing and developing democracy; conflict prevention and maintaining the rule of law and human rights; increasing dialogue among cultures and civilizations; rapprochement among peoples through mutual understanding; reinforcing solidarity through multilateral cooperative activities in order to promote economic growth.
