The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).


1998. Re-established in 2004, as an intergovernmental organization to assist resource-constrained countries to have more active participation in the Multilateral Trading System and other international trade matters.


Strengthen the capacity of less-advantaged country missions in Geneva (Switzerland) to lead a more effective trade diplomacy; assist the less-advantaged countries (LACs) to benefit from the multilateral trading system through a more active participation in the activities and negotiations of the WTO and other trade-related international organizations; provide trade-related technical assistance to the less-advantages countries (LACs) and countries without permanent representation in Geneva, ie the Non-resident countries.

Provides assistance to members and other resource-constrained countries, giving priority to the least developed countries. Type of assistance: personalized assistance on demand; organization of (occasionally in collaboration with other institutions) seminars, training sessions, workshops and meetings; preparation on demand of background notes, information briefs and ad-hoc documents on topics relating to international trade and development; support to WTO members and observers without a permanent mission in Geneva through non-resident unit.
