1954, Montréal QC (Canada), as French Cultural Union -- Union culturelle française (UCF). Subsequently became International Group of Associations for French Language and Culture -- Groupement international d'associations de langue et de culture françaises. Present title adopted 1969. Registered in accordance with Swiss Civil Code and in accordance with French law.
Facilitate contacts among peoples and national groups of French thought, language and culture; link these groups by a common action of reciprocal understanding; bring tangible cultural aid to French minorities; promote the spread of French language and culture; aid development of economic relations among countries and groups within the French language and cultural sphere.
