Oct 1949, Madrid (Spain), at 1st Ibero-American Congress of Education, as Ibero-American Bureau of Education -- Oficina de Educación Iberoamericana, originally functioning as a non-governmental organization. Transformed into an inter-governmental organization at 2nd Congress, 1954, Quito (Ecuador). Statutes approved at 3rd Congress, 1957, Santo Domingo (Dominican Rep). Present name adopted 1 Jun 1985.

Aims

Encourage educational, cultural and scientific cooperation in Ibero-American countries; guide and help in problems of education, science and culture development.
