Encourage exchange of experience and ideas among soil scientists in the region; advise agricultural agencies of member countries on efficient conservation, management and utilization of indigenous soil resources for prolific and sustained agricultural production; standardize soil research methods and procedures; review major soil problems affecting agricultural production and recommend appropriate measures to overcome them; liaise with international bodies interested in development of agriculture and transfer of appropriate agricultural planning and management techniques in the region.
