Aims
Promote a consultation and coordination system for the consensus on joint positions and common strategies for the Latin American and Caribbean region on economic issues vis-à-vis countries, groups of countries, international fora and organizations.

Latin American Council (meets annually) is the principal decision-making body and comprises one representative from each Member State. Permanent Secretariat, headed by the Permanent Secretary, is located in Caracas (Venezuela) and serves as the technical administrative organ. Action Committees are flexible cooperation mechanisms set up when more than 2 Member States voice interest in promoting joint programmes and projects in specific areas; they are dissolved once their objectives are fulfilled or they may become Permanent Bodies of the System. No Action Committees at present. Permanent bodies presently functioning: D-XD0335 - Latin American Fisheries Development Organization, Lima (Peru); K-XF6788 - Red de Información Tecnológica Latinoamericana (RITLA), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
