History

Established following ratification of the River Plate Basin Treaty -- Traité du Bassin du Rio de la Plata -- Tratado de la Cuenca de la Plata, opened for signing 23 Apr 1969, Brasilia (Brazil); ratified, 1972.

Aims

Promote and support development programmes for the area covered by the River Plate and its affluents, including questions of water resources and navigation, soils conservation and improvement, transports, health, education, environment.
