History
Founded 1 May 1967, Panama, as Inter-American Centre for Tax Administrators -- Centre interaméricain des administrateurs fiscaux -- Centro Interamericano de Administradores Tributarios -- Centro Interamericano de Administradores Tributarios, at the Constitutive General Assembly, when Bylaws were adopted. Bylaws partially amended at subsequent assemblies: 1970, Montevideo (Uruguay); 1972, Asunción (Paraguay); 1975, Ottawa (Canada); 1987, Ottawa; 1989, Montevideo; 1991, Washington DC (USA); 1993, Santiago (Chile); 1997, Buenos Aires (Argentina); 2000, Washington DC; 2001, Santiago; 2003, Cancún (Mexico); 2004, Cochabamba (Bolivia); 2005 Buenos Aires. Registered in accordance with the law of Panama, 30 Jan 1969.
Aims
Promote an environment of mutual cooperation; provide a forum for the exchange of experiences among its members, assisting them in improving their tax administrations based upon their needs.

Activities
Main programs: 'International Meetings' - organizes: General Assembly; technical conferences; seminars; working groups; annual courses on tax institutions and techniques, on customs for Latin American countries and on tax management and administration (for countries of the Caribbean). 'Tax Studies' - annual essay contest (sponsored by Institute of Fiscal Studies, Spain); research works. 'Technical Cooperation' - specific technical cooperation projects in tax administrations, supported by IDB, World Bank and IMF and with assistance from tax administrations of associate members; apprenticeship programme for officials from one country to gain experience of tax administration in another country. 'Internal Administration' - including finance and staff management. 'Training - CIAT Courses'. 'Taxation Program' - training program for Spanish-speaking officials. Online shop.
