History

Founded 31 May 1961, Tegucigalpa (Honduras), when started operations, following signature of Articles of Agreement, 13 Dec 1960, Managua (Nicaragua), by governments of El Salvador, Guatemala (Guatemala), Honduras and Nicaragua. Costa Rica became a member 23 Sep 1963. A financial institution of Central American Common Market (CACM). Statutes registered in 'UNTS 1/6544'.

Aims

Implement economic integration and balanced economic growth of member countries; finance projects to further these aims and develop trade in the Central American Common Market; support Central American free trade objectives; improve, expand or substitute agricultural activities to establish a regional supply system.

Principal investment sectors: regional infrastructure projects; long-term investment projects in regional industries; coordinated agricultural projects; enterprises needing to expand or modernize their operations; services necessary for functioning of the Common Market; other projects to create economic coordination among members and increase Central American trade. Concessionary window: Special Fund for the Social Transformation of Central America (FETS).
