1 Jun 1976, following signature of an international treaty, 4 Dec 1975, by the governments of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. Operations began in Aug 1976. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania became members of NIB in the beginning of 2005.
