History

Founded 7 Dec 1999, as Joint Secretariat of UNIPEDE and EURELECTRIC -- Secrétariat commun d'UNIPEDE et d'EURELECTRIC, by merger of European Grouping of the Electricity Supply Industry (EURELECTRIC), set up Nov 1989, Brussels (Belgium), and UNIPEDE - International Union of Producers and Distributors of Electrical Energy, set up 1925, Paris (France). Commenced operations under listed title, 1 Jan 2000. Registered in accordance with Belgian law. The Secretariat of UNIPEDE (the association of the European electricity supply industry) moved to Brussels in Mar 1998, to link up with the existing structure of EURELECTRIC (the association of the European Union electricity supply industry); but the two organizations maintained distinct identities until their full merger.
