Established 1987, as Ramsar Convention Bureau, to administer T-XT7109 - Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat (Convention on Wetlands), signed, Feb 1971, Ramsar (Iran Islamic Rep). Subsequently referred to as Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention of Wetlands. B-XB3383 - UNESCO is the Convention Depositary. IUCN has administrative responsibility for the Convention Secretariat.
Serve as framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetland ecosystems and water resources.
