Nov 1982, by E-XE1118 - Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), as successor to IOC Association for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions -- Association COI pour la mer des Caraïbes et les régions adjacentes -- Asociación COI para el Caribe y Regiones Adyacentes, set up Nov 1975, by Resolution IX-13 of the 9th session of the IOC, itself successor to H-XH8828 - Cooperative Investigations of the Caribbean and Adjacent Areas (CICAR), created by IOC in 1968 for a 6-year period.
Promote, develop and coordinate IOC's global scientific and research programmes and ocean services in the Caribbean region and adjacent regions; consider IOC's priorities and follow 3 main interactive lines of action: oceans and climate; ocean ecosystems science; marine science for integrated coastal area management.
