Commenced operations, pursuant to resolution passed at first United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference for Africa, 1963, Nairobi (Kenya), and to recommendations of a meeting of experts on joint centres for specialized services in surveying and mapping, 30 Jun - 3 Jul 1965, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). Works under the auspices of E-XE4174 - United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and D-XD8572 - African Union (AU) - originally H-XD3027 - Organization of African Unity (OAU).
Strengthen Member States' and stakeholders' capacity through generation, application and dissemination of geo-information and allied technologies for sustainable development.
