History
1 Oct 1980, as an autonomous institution within the framework of the A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN), following resolution 34/83 M adopted 11 Dec 1979 by UN General Assembly. By resolution 37/99 K of 13 Dec 1982, the General Assembly decided that UNIDIR should function as an autonomous institution working in close relationship with UN Department for Disarmament Affairs. Statute, approved by General Assembly resolution 39/148 H of 17 Dec 1984, became effective 1 Jan 1985. Based at E-XE3343 - United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG).

Support Members States, the UN and policy and research communities in advancing ideas and actions that contribute to a more sustainable and peaceful world.
