Established 1 Jan 1987, by United Nations (UN) General Assembly resolution 41/60J of 3 Dec 1986. Original title: United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America -- Centre régional des Nations Unies pour la paix, le désarmement et le développement en Amérique latine -- Centro Regional de las Naciones Unidas para la Paz, el Desarme y el Desarrollo en América Latina. Present name adopted in accordance with resolution A/C1/43/L73, 7 Dec 1988. Re-opened and re-inaugurated, 1 Dec 1999.

Aims

Translate the decisions, instruments and commitments of Member States in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation into action, at the national, sub-regional and regional levels; support Latin American and Caribbean States in achieving and maintaining peace and security through disarmament.
