The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History
Developed following two main initiatives: the Association for a European Law Institute (ELIA), March 2010, and the Conference of the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute (EUI), Apr 2010, Florence (Italy). Joint project group constituted of the ELIA and EUI initiatives and observers from the E-XE2442 - European Commission (EC) met on 23 and 24 Nov 2010, Vienna (Austria), in order to find common guidelines for the establishment of a European Law Institute, and resulted in the Vienna Memorandum. Following an agreement between 52 founding members made on 16 Apr 2011, Athens (Greece), ELI was recognized as an International Non-Profit Association Belgian law.
Aims
Contribute to the improvement of European legal development in a global context in the broadest sense; initiate, conduct and facilitate research, primarily through projects.
