The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1982, as a regional NGO set up to encourage and coordinate activities and stimulate action on environmental issues of concern to the South Pacific Region.

Aims

Improve cooperation and communication between people and agencies in the South Pacific involved in: environmental management and protection; environmental and human ecological research; formal and non-formal environmental education; participatory research; primary environment care; traditional medicine; focus on women as a voice for the environment, linking the concerns of women at the home level to the national and international fora.

Activities

Performs translation work for the Institute of Applied Sciences Environment Unit; attends workshops; responds to reports and issues as needed; attends and presents papers at Women and Environment Network Asia Pacific and UNEP meetings; participates in on-line discussions of issues relevant to small island states and women and the environment; introduced Participatory Rural Appraisal Approach to Community Development to Fiji, through national conference; co-ordinated all national workshops for Fiji National Biodiversity Strategy Action Plan.
