History

1967, Suva (Fiji), by Royal Charter, following consultations by the 'Interim Council of the University of the South Pacific' with governments in the Pacific region (Cook Is, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Is, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Is, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu).

Aims

Serve the needs of governments in the Pacific by providing education and training, research and consultancy services geared to regional needs.

Structure

Council, comprising Pro-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, 3 Pro Vice-Chancellors, 28 appointed members; one appointed by Privy Council, 4 appointed by Senate, 2 appointed by Statute 11 (1) (b) (xv), 3 elected by the Court of Convocation, 2 elected by academic staff, 4 elected by students associations and 2 co-opted members.
