May 1978, Bangkok (Thailand), with the name Renewable Energy Resources Information Center, as a specialized information centre of F-XF4954 - Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), coming within the remit of AIT Library. Present name adopted 1 Jan 1988.
Act as a specialized information centre for renewable energy - solar, biomass, wind, small scale hydropower - and for energy conservation and energy planning R and D projects: promote energy efficient and environmentally sound technology; establish contacts and cooperate with existing centres, organizations and individuals active in the field on a world-wide basis, so as to avoid duplication of effort and seek collaboration in meeting the information needs of developing countries.
