The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Founded 1983, following regulation by Council of the European Union, then the Council of the European Communities, and European Commission (EC), then the Commission of the European Communities to open their archives to the public. A subsequent agreement, 1984, between the Commission of the European Communities and European University Institute (EUI) laid the groundwork for establishing the Archives in Florence (Italy). Opened to researchers and the public, 1986. Memorandum of Understanding between EUI and EC reinforced Historical Archives' role, 2011. Council of European Union amended regulations regulations, Mar 2015. New Framework Partnership Agreement between EUI and EC signed, 15 Apr 2015; renewed 2019. Original title: Historical Archives of the European Communities (HAEC) -- Archives historiques des Communautés européennes.

Aims

Preserve and make accessible for research the archives deposited by EU institutions; collect and preserve private papers of individuals, movements and international organizations involved in European integration; facilitate research on the history of the European Union by providing on site and online access to archival material; promote public interest in European integration; enhance transparency in the functioning of EU Institutions.
