Founded

1978 France

History

1978, Sophia-Antipolis (France), following joint development by E-XE4161 - UNEP and the French Government, which commenced 1976, and examination at the World Conference on Water, 1977, Mar del Plata (Argentina). Came under the management of E-XE3163 - International Office for Water (IOW), Oct 1991; subsequently replaced by IOW Department of International Cooperation.

Aims

Work in and with developing countries and play a dynamic and innovative role in contributing to their progress; serve their political, administrative, economic and technical leaders, responding to requests of these countries by full use of available knowledge and skills, in cooperation with existing structures; further basic scientific training and build on acquired experience of high level executives through on-going training courses, advanced technology and considerations of sociological, economic, and political repercussions of major undertakings in the water sector; promote meetings, exchanges and circulation of technical and scientific information; develop awareness of State officials of the interaction between drinking water supply, sanitation and health.
