1984, as a component of E-XE4467 - Water and Sanitation Programme (WSP) of E-XE3382 - UNDP and F-XF1393 - International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) (World Bank). Also referred to as International Training Network for Low-Cost Water Supply and Sanitation.
Promote the establishment of a network of collaborating local, regional and international institutions in order to strengthen and enhance internal capacity for training, education, information education, information dissemination and research activities on appropriate, low-cost water supply and sanitation; contribute to improvement in effectiveness and coverage of water supply and sanitation investments for low-income groups in the urban fringe and rural areas of developing countries.

Regional centres (3): F-XF1664 - Network for Water and Sanitation International (NETWAS International) (for East Africa); E-XE1527 - Water and Sanitation for Africa (WSA) (for francophone Africa); U-XE1528 - Comité Coordinador Regional de Instituciones de Agua Potable y Saneamiento, de Centroamérica, Panama y República Dominicana (CAPRE). Other centres are in various stages of preparation. Activities coordinated by UNDP/World Bank Water and Sanitation Programme.
