The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).


July 1974, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), on signature of Agreement between Ethiopian Government and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), acting on behalf of CGIAR System Organization (CGIAR). Statutes registered in 'UNTS 1/17 600'. Ceased to exist, 31 Dec 1994, when combined with International Laboratory for Research on Animal Diseases (ILRAD) to form International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).


Assist national efforts which aim to change the production and marketing systems in tropical Africa so as to increase the sustained yield and output of livestock products and improve the quality of life of the people in the region.

Livestock research programmes for major ecological zones of Africa involving research in animal science, environmental sciences and socio-economics. Each research thrust carried out at a range of sites throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Major activities in Ethiopia (headquarters), Kenya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria. Research networks coordinate the work of national agricultural research systems in each major thrust area. Training and information.
