Founded as a European Trade Union Secretariat of H-XA1667 - International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) having existed since 1958, whose statutes were adopted 24 Apr 1969, The Hague (Netherlands), with the title European Confederation of Free Trade Unions in the Community (ECFTU) – Confédération européenne des syndicats libres dans la Communauté (CESL). Current ETUC constitution approved by 14th Statutory Congress, May 2019, Vienna (Austria). Originally composed of national affiliates of ICFTU. Later admitted other organizations affiliated to H-XA3490 - World Confederation of Labour (WCL) or having no international affiliation. ICFTU and WCL merged to form A-XM2085 - International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Nov 2006.


Promote the European Social Model and work for development of a united Europe of peace and stability where working people and their families can enjoy full human and civil rights and high living standards; speak with a single voice, on behalf of the common interests of workers, at European level.
