History
Founded by U-XU5822 - Comité de coordination des mouvements militants pour l'unité européenne, a liaison committee consisting of representatives of: D-XD0713 - Union of European Federalists, The (UEF); D-XD0796 - European League for Economic Cooperation (ELEC); Socialist Movement for the United States of Europe – Mouvement socialiste pour les Etats-Unis d"Europe (MSEUE) - currently H-XD3889 - European Socialist Movement; H-XD2935 - Mouvement libéral pour l'Europe unie (MLEU); D-XD0583 - Association européenne des enseignants (AEDE); D-XD0448 - Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR); H-XD3363 - Union of Resistance Veterans for a United Europe; and Nouvelles équipes internationales (NEI), which in 1947, Chaudfontaine (Belgium), became H-XD0620 - European Union of Christian Democrats (EUCD). Works as a permanent organization since Congress of Europe, which it convened May 1948, The Hague (Netherlands), and whose recommendations, inter alia, led to the creation of the Council of Europe, 5 May 1949, London (UK). Subsequent conferences led to the establishment of: H-XH0833 - European Payments Union (EPU), 19 Sep 1950, replaced, 27 Dec 1958, by T-XT5899 - European Monetary Agreement; D-XD0703 - European Cultural Centre (ECC), 7 Oct 1950, Geneva (Switzerland). Previously included U-XH0864 - Parliamentary Council of the European Movement, set up 1952, by merger of H-XH0865 - European Parliamentary Union (EPU), formed Sep 1947, Gstaad (Switzerland), and U-XH7114 - International Parliamentary Group of the European Movement.
Aims
Contribute to establishing a united, federal Europe founded on the principles of peace, democracy, liberty, solidarity and respect for basic human rights; provide a structure to encourage and facilitate active participation of citizens and civil society organizations in development of a united Europe.
