Sep 1995, from an idea from Virgilio Dastoli, Secretary-General of the International D-XD0814 - European Movement International (EMI), which was taken up in a call launched to NGOs and trade union organizations by the conference of the presidents of the national councils of the EM, 21 Sep 1995, Bonn (Germany). to coordinate activities in relation to the EU intergovernmental conference, 1996; subsequent agreement made this coordination permanent. Also referred to as Permanent Forum of the European Civil Society - Forum permanent de la société civile européenne. An organization of the type F-XE0630 - European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG).
Produce and communicate information; be a place of dialogue and reflection. Promote actions of all kinds in order to realize: an active European citizenship; a new form of governance that encourages better synergies between European institutions and civil society; a representative and participatory democracy that respects gender equality and the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality. Help coordinate, at the European level, local actions of organized civil society; reinforce the presence of civil society in Central and Eastern European countries and in the Mediterranean area.
