Founded 1977, following agreement between the Venezuelan Government and B-XB3383 - UNESCO. Also referred to by acronym CIET/UNESCO. An autonomous institution serving UNESCO member- or associate member countries in the tropical region.
Promote and support research projects focused towards conservation of ecosystems and sustainable development of natural resources; make governmental and non-governmental organizations aware of the need to preserve tropical biodiversity and the goods and services derived from it for the benefit of human kind.
