The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Apr 1997, at session of United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB), replacing the former ACC Sub-Committee on Rural Development. Original title: ACC Network on Rural Development and Food Security. Current title adopted 2002. Jointly managed by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in close cooperation with World Food Programme (WFP).

Aims

As a mechanism for inter-agency follow-up to the World Food Summit, enable diverse actors to work together in pursuit of common goals, based on commitment to promote rural development and overcome global food insecurity.

Activities

Programmes implemented by country-focused and demand-driven thematic groups which set agendas and implement activities that meet national needs and priorities. They select priority themes to focus coordinated support for policy formulation and field activities and act as a complementary mechanism to develop and support national 'Food Insecurity and Vulnerability Information and Mapping Systems (FIVIMS)'. At international level, promotes information exchange. Supports setting up of Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition (AAHM).
