6 Mar 1989, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), as WHO Pan African Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) -- OMS Centre panafricain pour la préparation aux situations d'urgence, by World Health Organization (WHO), technical service unit of WHO Division of Emergency and Humanitarian Action (EHA), in support of the United Nations International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction. Since 1997 the Centre is the base of WHO Emergency Health Training Programme for Africa -- OMS Centre panafricain pour la formation à la gestion des situations d'urgence.


Promote awareness and institutional and human capacities for emergency management in Africa; promote Africa's perspective and priorities in WHO strategies and programmes for emergency and humanitarian action; promote WHO as technical agency in emergency and PTC-Addis as a centre of reference for documentation, information and services.
