History

Founded 26 July 1954, Geneva (Switzerland), when Constitution was adopted by General Assembly, following suggestions made at Congress, 1950, New York NY (USA). Originally also known by the acronym IFGO. Registered in accordance with Swiss Civil Code; UK Registered Charity; Registered in the State of Illinois (USA), 28 Nov 2001.

Aims

Promote the health and wellbeing of women worldwide and improve the practice of gynaecology and obstetrics; promote educational activities and strengthen communication links with and between member societies; further close relations with academic institutions, nongovernmental organizations, governments, intergovernmental organizations and the private sector.
