The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Established in Geneva (Switzerland) as a Principal Subsidiary Body of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). Original title: Committee on Trade (CT) -- Comité du commerce. Reports to United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). First session Dec 1997; first session of current Committee, June 2006; 6th session, Feb 2014. Also has a title in Russian.

Aims

Support: development of trade in the UNECE region; better integration of all member states into the regional and global economy. Facilitate trade by introducing trade facilitation measures and electronic commerce; eliminate technical barriers to trade; promote international standardization and regulatory cooperation among member states; develop agricultural quality standards used in trade and reflected in the legislation of many countries as well as in EU directives; carry out studies on regulatory and procedural barriers to trade in selected countries; support the Aid for Trade Initiative in the ECE region.
