History
27 Nov 1974, Cozumel (Mexico), during 1st Meeting of Latin American and Caribbean Sugar Exporting Countries. Statutes adopted at 4th Meeting, 12 Mar 1976, Cali (Colombia). Statutes registered in 'UNTS 1/20315'. Ceased to exist in 2001.
Aims
Serve member nations as a consulting, coordinating and information agency on matters of common interest in the fields of cane sugar production and exporting to the world market; provide member countries with alternatives and the elements for adopting common positions; foster solidarity when these countries face special situations; coordinate policies to achieve fair pricing; strengthen cooperation and exchange of know-how among those in charge of implementing international marketing policies in member countries; promote exchange of scientific and technical knowledge in the spheres of agriculture, use of cane by-products and sugar production processes.
