History

Oct 1983, London (UK), deriving from the setting up, 1961, of Help the Aged (UK), now Age UK, to raise funds for the needs of elderly people in disasters worldwide. UK Registered Charity.

Aims

Work towards a world in which all older people can lead dignified, active, healthy and secure lives; cooperate with partners to ensure that people everywhere understand how much older people contribute to society and that they must enjoy their right to healthcare, social services and economic and physical security.

Activities

Helps older people claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty, through lobbying governments to achieve policy change, and through practical projects on the ground. Addresses the following issues: climate change; health; emergencies; HIV and AIDS; rights; social protection and work.
