The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Dec 1972, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), by the Ministers of Communications of 8 countries, to serve Coordinating Committee of South-East Asian Senior Officials on Transport and Communications (COORDCOM). Ceased to exist.

Aims

Identify, appraise and recommend high priority regional and national programmes and projects in the field of transport and communications.

Activities

Commissions and/or undertakes feasibility studies of infrastructural projects and proposed new services. Conducts surveys. Promotes better coordination of transport and communications policies in the region in order to achieve better economic cooperation and to promote an orderly expansion of intra-regional transport and communications. Offers expert advice on technical matters (navigation, data base management, road safety, etc). Organizes seminars and training programmes in relevant fields. Strengthens research, consulting and training capabilities in member countries. Provides economic and traffic forecasts in order to anticipate transport and communications requirements. Promotes public and private investments in the transport and communications sector.
