Jun 1996, Istanbul (Turkey), at 2nd United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II), in the light of H-XF2785 - Global Action Plan for Environment and Development in the 21st Century (Agenda 21) and the Global Plan of Action of U-XE1139 - United Nations Commission on Human Settlements (UNCHS), following meetings, discussions, research and exchanges from 1994 onwards. Merged with U-XF5596 - International Forum on Urban Poverty (IFUP), to form World Urban Forum (WUF).
Act as a global mechanism through which cities and international support programmes may exchange experience, learn from each other, collaborate in addressing urban environmental issues worldwide and implement Agenda 21 and the Habitat Global Plan of Action at the local level.
