The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Nov 1989, with the assistance from UNESCO. Registered in accordance with French law.

Aims

Promote international scientific, technical and cultural cooperation among islands, particularly small islands, in view of their economic and social development and with special regard to their natural environment.

Activities

Assists island communities with education and training programmes, economic analyses and all other scientific and technical activities needed for integrated planning and judicious use of natural and human resources. Participates in: technical cooperation; information exchange; research activities; conferences and seminars. Works on inter-island agreements directed towards islands' common interests; works towards international implementation of European projects, particularly in the areas of Information Society, Renewable Energy and Water Management.
