History

3 May 1964, Hamburg (Germany FR), as Conservative and Christian Democrat Youth Community (COCDYC) -- Communauté des jeunes chrétiens populaires, by Conservative and Christian Democrat youth organizations of Scandinavian countries, Federal Republic of Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom. Present name adopted 1975. Also referred to in French as Communauté de la jeunesse démocrate de l'Europe.

Aims

Emphasize the freedom of the individual, the social market economy, a decentralized society and worldwide cooperation; further contacts and strengthen cooperation between member organizations from different European countries and thereby contribute to a united Europe; serve as a platform for dialogue and exchange of opinions, ideas and experience on political issues, which often leads to adopting common standpoints, working papers, policy papers and resolutions.

Activities

Organizes seminars, meetings, study visits and annual summer school; provides international experience to widen the perspectives of members/participants; gives views on European issues to senior politicians; influences opinion-formers from other youth organizations. DEMYC Contact Group of Members of the European Parliament set up 1985. Youth of EPP (YEPP), set up 30 Jan - 2 Feb 1997, Brussels (Belgium).
