History
Established on signature of T-XT6002 - EUROCONTROL International Convention Relating to Cooperation for the Safety of Air Navigation by representatives of 6 governments (in order of signing): Federal Republic of Germany, Belgium, France, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Netherlands. Convention entered into force 1 Mar 1963. Ireland adhered to the Convention on 1 Jan 1965. Two Protocols signed, 6 Jul 1970 and 21 Nov 1978, Brussels, relating to tax issues and still in force (as amended by Article XXXVIII of amending Protocol of 1981). Protocol amending EUROCONTROL Convention of 1960 ("Amended Convention") as well as Multilateral Agreement relating to Route Charges, signed, 12 Feb 1981, Brussels, and entered into force, 1 Jan 1986. 27 Jun 1997, Brussels, 27 EUROCONTROL Member States signed Protocol consolidating EUROCONTROL Convention ("Revised Convention"). Ratification process of Revised Convention currently ongoing. 8 Oct 2002, Brussels, EUROCONTROL Member States and European Community signed Protocol on the Accession of the European Community to EUROCONTROL Convention.
Aims
As a pan-European, civl-military organization: support Member States to achieve safe, efficient and environmentally-friendly air traffic operations across Europe; deliver a Single European Sky that will meet the safety, capacity and performance challenges of European aviation in the 21st century.
