History
Founded following recommendations, 1919, of the then 'International Research Council (IRC)', and since 1931, H-XA1752 - International Council for Science (ICSU). In 1947, took over activities of H-XH2145 - International Institute of Embryology (IIE), set up 4 Jun 1911, Utrecht (Netherlands). Statutes and By-Laws modified 1955 and 1970, and amended by: 19th General Assembly, 1976, India; 21st General Assembly, 1982, Ottawa (Canada); 22nd General Assembly, 1985, Budapest (Hungary); 28th General Assembly, 2004, Cairo (Egypt).
Aims
Promote study of biological sciences; initiate, facilitate and coordinate research and other scientific activities that require international cooperation; ensure discussion and dissemination of results of cooperative research; promote organization of international conferences and assist publication of their reports.
