History

as Committee on African Statistical Development (CASD) – Comité de coordination pour le développement de la statistique en Afrique by E-XE4174 - United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), under the 'Addis Ababa Plan of Action for Statistical Development in Africa in the 1990s'. Following recommendations of Conference of Ministers, 2001, ceased to exist.

Aims

Act as the coordinating body for statistical development activities in Africa.

Structure

Committee comprises: (i) Representatives of 9 ECA member states, based on geographic and linguistic balance, level of statistical development and indications of self-support with regard to statistical activities: North Africa - 1 (English/French); West Africa - 2 (one English, one French); Central Africa - 1 (French); East and Southern Africa - 4 (including one French); Lusophone countries - 1. (ii) One English-speaking and one French-speaking regional statistical training centre participating in the Statistical Training Programme for Africa (STPA) -- Programme de formation statistique pour l'Afrique (PFSA). (iii) African and non-African bilateral and multilateral agencies and donors (8). Chair is elected at each meeting. Secretariat at Development Information Services Division of ECA.
