The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).


May-June 1977, on the decision of the Industrial Development Board of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), following recommendations of 2nd General Conference, Mar 1975, Lima (Peru), and UN General Assembly Resolution 3507 (XXX) of Dec 1975. Initially set up for an 18 month trial period; became permanent body on decision of the Board, Feb 1979, following ad hoc Expert Group Meeting on pilot activities of INTIB. Ceased to exist.


Enable developing countries to have access on request to specific information on advanced and other technologies and on new uses of existing technologies, new development, possibilities of adapting them to local needs, and to select technologies which meet their requirements; facilitate and accelerate industrial and technological information flow; establish and develop a network of suppliers of such information; generate specific technical information in the area of concern to pre-investment choice of technology from alternatives in selected industrial sectors; develop links with end-users of such information in developing countries.

Areas of competence include: technological information; natural resources; wastes; technology licensing; investment data; energy; industrial legislation; sources of technological equipment, advice and research. Through pre-feasibility studies, assists in the decision-making process for investment in technology; provides selected, analysed and annotated information on industrial matters, including: manufacturing processes and know-how, equipment and machinery suppliers, criteria and parameters for selection at pre-feasibility study stages, implications of terms and conditions for better acquisition of technology, research and development activities, advisory services for information handling. In addition to in-house expertise, utilizes external resources including on-line databases. Main users are small to medium scale industrial enterprises, industrial information service centres, research and development institutes, government decision, makers and engineering consulting firms.

Instrumental in setting up Industrial Information Networks as a means of linking development finance institutions in the technology sector. Industrial sectors within INTIB's area of competence are: Food Processing (with special emphasis on vegetable oils and fats); Fertilizer; Leather and Leather Products; Capital Goods (with special emphasis on energy-related equipment and technology); Petrochemical; Building Materials; Fishery Industry; Industrial Manpower Training; Agricultural Machinery; Non-ferrous Metals; Iron and Steel; Pharmaceutical; Industrial Financing; Wood and Wood Products; Textile and Wearing Apparel; Electronics; Agro-industry; Low-cost Transport; Pulp and Paper; Energy (new and renewable sources of energy, non-conventional sources of energy, energy for rural requirements).
