The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

Acquire various media material; organize and analyze such material according to standard systems; make available information by planners and researchers in the information field; gather, document and disseminate information about the region's folklore; promote coordination and cooperation in the production and exchange of programmes and other information materials such as unified indexes and bibliographies; exchange publications and information services with those of other countries and similar centres and redisseminate information received from abroad to the Gulf region; extend support to information, documentation and librarianship services to the Gulf media.

Organizes seminars and training courses. Exchanges expertise and aid with various institutions and organizations.
