Established by Council and Parliament regulation (Regulation 1592/2002), repealed by Regulation 216/2008. Operational since 28 Sep 2003. Headquarters in Cologne (Germany) since 2004. Took over all responsiblities of Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA), 19 Mar 2008. A decentralized agency of F-XF2147 - European Union (EU).

Aims

Ensure the highest common level of safety protection for EU citizens; ensure the highest common level of environmental protection; maintain a single regulatory and certification process among Member States; facilitate the internal aviation single market and create a level playing field; work with other international aviation organizations and regulators.
