The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Oct 1976, by 16th General Assembly of International Council for Science (ICSU). Ceased to exist 1997. Replaced by Advisory Committee on Genetic Experimentation and Biotechnology - Steering Committee on Genetics and Biotechnology (ACOGEB/SCGB).

Aims

Review, evaluate and make available information on practical and scientific benefits, safeguards, containment facilities; consider environmental health-related and other consequences of any disposal of biological agents constructed by recombinant DNA techniques; foster opportunities for training and international exchange; provide a forum through which interested national, regional and other international bodies may communicate.
