History

22 June 1962, Paris (France), under auspices of UNESCO, following recommendations adopted 30 Sep 1961, Istanbul (Turkey). Registered in accordance with Belgian law.

Aims

Foster and facilitate exchange of information on basic research in cell biology and biotechnology; give young scientists of every country equal chance to contribute by creative research to the progress of science and become full members of the scientific community.

Activities

Members put at ICRO's disposal their educational experience, connections in the scientific world and hospitality of their institutes. Working Panels (5): Molecular Structure and Function; Animal Cell Biology; Plant Cell Biology; Microbiology; Instrumentation and Information. Organizes (under sponsorship of UNESCO) international and regional training courses, particularly for advanced experimental training of younger cell biologists, co-sponsors training courses with national institutes of the countries concerned. Through Working Panel on Plant Cell Biology, instrumental in setting up: UNESCO World Network of Microbiological Resources Centres MIRCEN.
