History

28 Jun 1946, Brussels (Belgium), as International Broadcasting Organization -- Organisation internationale de radiodiffusion (OIR), following conference, Mar 1946, Brussels, of representatives of 22 countries. Originally registered under Belgian law, 6 Nov 1946. A successor to H-XH3715 - International Broadcasting Union, which was founded 4 Apr 1925, Geneva (Switzerland). On 22 Feb 1950, Brussels, when D-XD0598 - European Broadcasting Union (EBU) was set up, the seat of the General Secretariat of OIRT moved to Prague (Czechoslovakia). Listed name adopted 1959. Registered under Czechoslovakian law. Ceased to exist, 1 Jan 1993, following Extraordinary General Assembly, 21 Oct 1992, Moscow (Russia), on merger with the EBU, when full reunification of European broadcasting was achieved.

Aims

Establish and extend broadcasting and television services in different countries; arrange exchange of information among members on technical developments, programmes, projects for improvement and coordination; uphold the interests of broadcasting and television through solving problems by means of international cooperation.
