The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1974, as a regional scheme, in order to give a continuing framework to the World Employment Programme of International Labour Organization (ILO). Ceased to exist, Dec 1993.

Aims

Assist countries, and regional and sub-regional organizations in Africa, in the identification and implementation of programmes to: maximize productive employment; reduce unemployment, underemployment and poverty; improve the distribution of income; ensure the satisfaction of basic needs.

Activities

Assistance to countries and regional and sub-regional organizations in Africa is provided in 5 main ways: macro-level analysis of the employment situation and policies through interdisciplinary missions; analysis of employment situation and policies in individual sectors of economy; identification and development of policies, programmes and projects aimed at promoting productive employment, generating incomes, alleviating poverty and reducing income inequality; organizing training activities through short courses, seminars and workshops; conducting regional, sub-regional and country level research with a view to developing regional cooperation through the exchange of information and experiences.
