History

Established on approval by conference of water managers and major operators of a study led by French Ministry of the Environment and E-XE3163 - International Office for Water (IOW). Set up to network systems in countries signatory to T-XT7638 - Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean (Barcelona Convention). National focal points set up following first meeting of EMWIS Management Committee, 17 Mar 1998, Paris (France). Implemented by an F-XE0630 - European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG), whose statutes were signed by IOW, 15 June 1998.

Facilitate access to information in the field by using modern communication means and networking already existing systems.

Structure

General Meeting. Management Committee comprises 13 countries, particularly those financing the Technical Unit, which is managed by a consortium of 3 operators representing France, Spain and Italy. Coordination Committee unites National Focal Points. EEIG managed by IOW. Based in Sophia-Antipolis (France).
