History

Founded by 19 NGOs, including F-XF4299 - Friends of the Earth International (FoEI), F-XF2640 - International Alliance of the Indigenous Tribal Peoples of the Tropical Forests (IAITPTF) and F-XF0897 - World Rainforest Movement (WRM).

Aims

Support and coordinate joint NGO/IPO campaigns focusing on raising awareness of the need for socially just and effective forest policy, challenging the underlying causes of forest loss and rights of indigenous and other forest peoples; facilitate informed participation of NGOs and indigenous peoples' organizations in the global policy debate relating to forests; promote and monitor the implementation of commitments made; defend the rights of indigenous and other forest peoples, with a special emphasis on women.
